Dear Families,
I wanted to take some time to share some changes that we have made in math. At the beginning of this year, I began taking a course on a guided math structure to support all math learners. It has really changed some of my thinking and I have begun to implement my learning into your child’s school day. As of Monday, we have begun a new math structure that will allow me to meet with small groups, as well as individuals who may need some extra support. The students are also having opportunities to play math games and engage in deeper math thinking. Everyone is really excited about the change in math and I have seen a mindset shift. Below, you will see an outline of our math block and I will try to share some pictures of our work next week. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will continue to share more information as we go.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Moore
MATH STRUCTURE
1. Warm-Up (5 mins)
2. Mini-Lesson (15 mins) - Students get a short introduction to what they will be practicing during guided math.
3. Guided Math (30-40 mins) - Students meet with me in small groups or one-on-one while rotating to other stations, as well.
4. Reflection/Journal (10 mins) - At the end, students participate in a reflection about their learning and answer a math journal question.
